So, a week ago monday (August 11, 2008) I went back to the oral torture surgeon for the next stage of my tooth drama for the implant portion of the nightmare. If you recall, in March I had a tooth, previously root-canaled, go terribly wrong and abscess, which led to emergency removal. It was not a good thing, worst-case scenario type of situation (see post: http://thefamilygee.blogspot.com/2008/04/when-momma-aint-happy.html for details).
So the next step was to put in the implant, which basically is a screw, drilled into my jaw (yes, I saw the drill, yikes!!!) which they will eventually build a crown for. Fortunately, they knock you out for this part too, and give you good pain meds to follow up with. Here is the result, this is an x-ray they apparently took right after the surgery. I have no recollection of taking an x-ray after surgery, I know you have to stand for this kind of x-ray. All I remember is waking up with Bryan by my side, listening to girl in the next curtain-cubie over barfing her guts out.
Yep, that's my mouth! Pretty. Awaiting the next bill, donations accepted!:-)

Drop me a memory
Have you seen this yet on other blogs? Kind of fun. Here's how it works:
Leave a comment on my blog of a memory that you and I have had together. It doesn't matter if you've known me for a short time or a long time, anything that you remember!
Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It is pretty funny to read the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you are playing and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. On your mark... get set... comment!

Maxine lost her first tooth!!!
Unfortunately it didn't happen the "normal" way, and hasn't been the best experience. Here's the story, I'll try to keep it quick. Maxine bumped one of her top front teeth a few years ago, and as most do, it discolored a little and has remained the same for a few years. A couple weeks ago she complained that it was hurting and it looked to me that the coloring had changed, ever so slightly. So I took her to see her regular dentist in Utah who has been watching the situation since she bumped it. He took an X-ray and checked her out, said he didn't say anything to be concerned about. He said it could be the permanent tooth pushing on the bone, pushing on the baby tooth, or something like that???, and maybe the feeling was new to her and that the only reason to pull it was for the level of discomfort, but nothing serious. I said leave it alone, it will probably be coming out in a few months anyways. She hasn't lost any teeth yet, and he said, nope. It will be a while before she's ready to loose any teeth, she was about a year away from losing any. So, we went home and that was that. Earlier this week she said it was hurting again and was asking for lots of Tylenol. I took a closer look, her gums above the tooth were swollen and we noticed a little spot. I had a friend who is a dental hygienist come over and look at it. She said it didn't look good, could be an abscess and we needed to get in to a dentist, quick!! This was Thursday night, and we didn't want to go through a weekend. So we got into a local dentist here in Pocatello, and he said, basically, it needed to come out. (He said things like this don't always show up on an X-ray at first, so the first dentist didn't miss it, it just wasn't there enough for him to see. Put my mind at ease cause I didn't want to think he had missed anything, we really like him).
So, Friday morning he pulled out her tooth. It wasn't much fun but she was a brave, tough girl. She wimpered a bit when he deadened the area but after that she didn't cry until they were all done. As we were walking out, she could hardly hold it in any longer and I told her it was ok to cry. She cried the entire way home. Once we got home, she did ok, but didn't want to take the gauze out of her mouth (don't worry, we changed it several times throughout the day but it didn't come out until after she'd fallen asleep that night). She wouldn't eat or drink at all. We had been planning to go swimming that afternoon, and she said she was ok to go. So we went swimming but she didn't swim much. Mostly, she just laid on the grass wrapped up in her towel.
The next morning she woke up and said her tummy hurt, I said it was probably because she hadn't eaten anything. She tried eating a little, but she threw it up. All day long she was feverish and threw up everything she tried to eat, even water. She napped on and off all day. But by about 7 that night she said she was hungry and perked up and ate popcorn and has done great since. She's not real happy about not having a tooth, but she'll get used to it. The dentist said she'd be without for at least a year.
So, that was our fun Saturday and of course, as Murphy's Law goes, Bryan was out of town, just like the last dental emergency. Our family hasn't done too good this year concerning teeth . . . .
Riley's Birthday: 9 years old!!!
My little Cub Scout.
Now, I'm new to this whole Cub Scout thing, took me almost the first year to figure out what it was all about and what I needed to do to help Riley (and I'm still pretty clueless). He's really enjoying it though; he enjoys the accomplishment and getting awards. The Pack Meeting held in July, the same month as his birthday was exciting for Riley as he earned quite a few awards. If you look closely, there's even a smile on his face, in a few pics, a bit serious too. This month he received 2 "segments" for day camp, and an outing the den had done. He earned his swimming belt loop and pin (and is on fire to earn more of those), and finally his Wolf Award. He is also ready to get several arrows and a conservation award, but he'll get those next month.Earning his swimming belt loop and pin.
This is Riley and his friend, Grant. Grant lives about 3 houses down from us and will be in Riley's class at school this year in the 4th grade. Riley got his wolf, Grant had earned his Bear.
This is Riley pinning me with his Wolf pin.
Time to post
I guess a blog isn't too much fun if the author doesn't post anything. Oops. I didn't think there was much that was post-worthy at our house, until I transferred the pictures from my camera, so we'll see what I can do. . . .
